Description

This is not out of the ordinary. This is commonplace.

Following on from her storming, debut poetry collection Unorthodox, Jemima Hughes sits with you in the aftermath to discuss how to rebuild. Jemima’s story is one of sexual violence trauma and mental health difficulties but, ultimately, it is a story of hope.

Unorthodox was what happened. Into the Ordinary explores how we can make the world a more understanding, accepting and comfortable place for those living with these experiences.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jemima Hughes is a mental health and sexual violence awareness activist and multi slam winning performance poet. Jemima’s debut poetry collection Unorthodox, published with Verve Poetry Press in 2020, challenges perceptions of living with sexual trauma and mental health difficulties. This second collection Into The Ordinary aims to change perspectives on how we can make the world a more accepting, understanding and comfortable place for those living with these experiences. Jemima takes you on a journey through her own experiences, providing a relatable outlet and encouraging conversation.

Unorthodox was what happened. Into the Ordinary explores what we can do about it.

Jemima has had multiple features on BBC upload, BBC Radio Coventry and Warwickshire, Black Country Radio Xtra and Hillz FM. Her headline performances have taken her all over the UK and Ireland to poetry events and music festivals including Stendhal Festival, BBC Contains Strong Language, Shambala Festival and Moseley Folk Festival. Jemima has headlined shows online streaming all over the world to countries including Canada, the United States, Pakistan and Australia. Her work is published in numerous anthologies including We’ve Done Nothing Wrong, We’ve Nothing To Hide with Verve Poetry Press and The Scriptstuff Lockdown Anthology. She’s been published in magazines including Steel Jackdaw and Shine Magazine in association with the Women’s Awards.

As a believer that listening saves lives, more recently Jemima has turned her hand to hosting, aiming to provide the same opportunity to others, of being heard, that others have provided to her.
